Apple's new EU terms make web billing more attractive, yet up to 40% of subscription churn comes from failed payments. COLIBRIX ONE provides merchants moving billing off the store with a way to recover them.
Since 1 October 2026, subscription apps in the EU keep more of each sale. Under Apple's unified terms, the standard commission is 26% for Apple In-App Purchase, 20% for an alternative in-app payment and 15% for a link-out to a web checkout.
When billing moves outside the store, so does responsibility for every renewal that fails. Payment failure accounts for 20% to 40% of subscriber churn and costs subscription businesses around 9% of annual revenue. Most of these subscribers never meant to leave: their card expired, hit a limit between billing dates or was flagged by the issuer.
Recovery takes more than retrying the same card on the same route, because card networks limit resubmissions: Visa allows up to 15 reattempts within 30 days for retriable declines. A merchant that reduces its commission rate by 11 percentage points but lets failed renewals lapse can lose the margin it has just gained.
The COLIBRIX ONE single payment API gives subscription merchants a way to process recurring payments outside the app stores, based on their own billing logic. It processes fixed, per-seat and usage-based charges and lets merchants change charge amounts or frequency without customer re-authorisation.
Through a new partnership with Primer, clients can add card vaulting, dunning management, smart routing and automatic fallbacks to their existing acquiring, so more failed renewals are recovered without customers re-entering their card details.
"Subscription merchants need more than one way to get a renewal paid," says Olya Oleh, Head of Partnership and Business Development at COLIBRIX ONE. "Partnering with Primer lets us offer our clients vaulting, dunning and fallback routing alongside our acquiring."
Recurring payments sit alongside COLIBRIX ONE card acquiring, which covers more than 130 countries and accepts Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay, as well as Open Banking payments in over 30 European markets.
Once collected, subscription revenue can go straight into multi-currency business accounts with a dedicated IBAN issued in the company's name. Funds in USD, EUR, GBP, CHF or PLN are held and paid out over SEPA, SEPA Instant and Swift through one provider. Each client works with a dedicated account manager and has 24/7 support from real people.
COLIBRIX ONE is a payments infrastructure platform providing acquiring, recurring payments and multi-currency business accounts. It is a trading name of Colibrix Limited, Mellifera Operations Limited and Mellifera Kartiera Limited (an MFSA-authorised EMI, ref. C107685).
